WELLINGTON POINT HIGH SCHOOL CHAPLAINCY PROGRAM
Supporting Youth…………………..Providing Hope for the Future.
Our Chaplaincy Program provides a service that encompasses confidential listening, positive role modelling and assistance with life skills and education. The aim is to provide hope and options for our young people. Through the chaplaincy program working as part of the school community and in conjunction with existing school welfare structures we aim to provide hope and options for our students and to support the development of responsible, respectful young people.
The program enjoys strong support from a number of local churches, the school administration and the school’s Parents and Citizens association. A Chaplaincy Committee consisting of local church representatives and staff oversee the work of the Chaplain. Currently the Chaplain is employed for two days a week but with over 1100 students the school is looking to increase this time. The Chaplaincy Committee is seeking support to fund this increase.
The Chaplaincy Program provides pastoral care for the school community including sport coaching, lunch time programs and breakfast clubs, information for students and parents on various issues, networking with local churches and community organisations, one on one sessions for students in need as well as home and hospital visits. Students require parental permission to participate in activities that contain ethical, spiritual or religious content such as prayer meetings but many of the other activities are part of the school’s general pastoral care for students.
